I’ve been a little absent this past year! My son was born last summer and life has been busy. Any parent will tell you the first year of a child’s life is a little like learning how to survive. They change so much and so fast that as soon as you find yourself catching your footing, they throw another wrench at you. It’s a wonderful chaos.

I’ve been thinking about the seasons of photography that I’ve gone through in life. I spent five years grinding away in a studio and burning out. I spent some years focusing on my career and only doing things here and there. When I left work more than 2 years ago, all of a sudden I had all the time in the world to dedicate to quality time with my camera: exploring around town, taking trips, capturing shows. Then this era: taking private photos that aren’t for the world at all. Just us. Moments of my son’s life that are my most cherished photos, most just snaps with a cell phone.

Print Swap @ The Photo Outfitters

Last night I participated in a print swap at The Photo Outfitters in Charlotte. It was my first time doing something like this and it was so cool. I made three 12x18” prints of my favorite photos of late. I loved how they came out, and at the time I offered them as signed and numbered limited editions for one month. Each included a Certificate of Authenticity and was serialized and registered with the Hahnemühle My Art Registry.

Photographing Too Many Zooz & Moon Hooch

Last night was a total blast! I shot the Too Many Zooz and Moon Hooch show, and it was amazing getting to photograph it. I’ve been in the crowd for so many years, but being this close to the action and seeing everything backstage really felt like being a part of the show. The best part? Getting to do this with my best bud, Max. Can’t wait to do it again soon!

Over the last year I’ve gotten back into photography after a hiatus, and I’ve been putting my photos out into the world. Oddly though, something about that has felt “empty” to me. Like something is missing but until now I haven’t been able to quite put my finger on it. I’ve come to realize what I think has been missing from my photography isn’t photography at all, but the aspect of written story-telling.

Plan Spontaneity

I had a photography day out this past weekend with my friend, Maxwell. We started the day without much of a plan. There was a Christmas festival at Camp North End that we decided to check out.

On the way Max was telling me about a new photo shop he saw recently called The Photo Outfitters. It was on the way so we stopped in to check them out. We were greeted by Tony and Cannon and we talked shop with them a bit — cameras, film, developing, community. They’re great guys there and we’re looking forward to participating in some of their events coming up, like a print swap.
